Statement of Faith

A Statement of Faith has two components, one being the basic tenets of faith that dictate our doctrine, and the second being our convictions/values that impact our decisions. These simple truths are decided by the Eldership of Journey, and dictate our doctrine and practices as a church.

Beliefs

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and our Savior. He is the Alpha & Omega, the Creator and the Judge.  He is the center of our worship and the possessor of our lives, and everything we do is for His Glory.

We believe that Scripture is the inerrant Word of God, inspired by God through the writers and given to us by Jesus through the Holy Spirit. As such, we are to only speak where the Bible speaks, and to be silent where it is silent.

We believe that we are sinners, unworthy of a relationship with God, and that our salvation is a gift from God given through faith in Jesus Christ and the saving work of His death on the cross.

We believe that God granted this relationship through Jesus, and we can receive it by believing in Jesus Christ and confessing Him as Savior and Lord, repenting of our sins, and being obedient in baptism for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Church is the plan for God to share this good news with the world, demonstrating to everyone God's passion, love and commitment for people.

We believe that the Holy Spirit was given to the Church as the seal for its redemption and the power for its message.

We believe that judgment is coming for the world, and we are commanded to have a sense of urgency in sharing the Gospel throughout every part of the world.

Convictions

Christ is the Hope of the World and the Head of the Church. Our existence as a fellowship is only because of the saving work of Jesus on the Cross. (1Pet 3:15, 1Tim 4:10, Col 1:18)

Prayer is the oxygen for the Church, and Love is its blood. (John 17:20-21, Mark 11:17, 1Cor 13:13, John 13:34-35)

Authentic Worship is a God-given lifestyle that frees us from the entanglements of life and glorifies God in heaven. (John 4:23-24, 2Cor 3:16-18)

God's heart is for people. All People matter to God, so He sent the Church to bring people into His Kingdom. (Matt 18:14, Luke 15, 2Pet 3:9)

Cultural relevance is fundamental and must be accompanied with sound doctrine to be effective. (Rom 1:14-16, Acts 15, Tit 1:9, 2:1)

Devotion to Christ is not only expected, but exhilarating! It is reflected in a life that embraces joyful discipline, accelerated maturity, servant leadership, and creative excellence through the use of spiritual gifts. (2Tim 3:16-17, Eph 4:11-15, Col 2:6-7, Heb 12:1)

Community is the context of life change, of effective ministry, and of strong relationships. God designed it in the family and empowered it in the Church. (John 13:34-35, Deut 6:6-9, Eph 5:22-6:4)

Behavior

In any growing body of believers, there will be different beliefs about the application of our statement of faith, and what are valid practices from the New Testament church applicable for today. We respect those differences, and agree to a set of basic behaviors to maintain the unity of the body. These behaviors do NOT attempt to change a person's belief, but redirect us toward a central focus on Christ. Each group leader agrees to practice these beliefs, and reconsider any that are provided by the eldership of Journey.

We love Jesus above all else. Our practices are based on God First (and not our own agendas).

We grow together through prayer and love. We choose to love people one-at-a-time.

We worship God as the authentic lifestyle He desires. Worship is displayed every day by living "all in" for Jesus at work, play, home & church.

We tell people how much they matter to God. The Kingdom is better when we all are together, including those who have yet to return to God.

We study the Bible as our guide to Truth & Relevance. The authority and application of Scripture will be our standard for success.

We serve others with the talents God gave us. Although all gifts are possible, those that encourage others and share the gospel will be practiced in our ministries. Gifts that are not for others will not be practiced publicly.

We come together in a biblically-functioning community for the purpose of life change. We are here to serve and support every person in their walk with Christ, and will focus our ministries on those activities that change lives.
